Rani of Rampur is a well written debut novel by Suneeta Misra. I liked the way Ms. Misra has visualized the story. The characters come alive as the story is played out in the village of Rampur. We see this happen mostly through the eyes of Rani, a poor but educated city girl from Bareilly. The references to the politics of India, land laws, and women's empowerment come through in the story, and we understand that these subject areas are where Ms. Misra's heart lies. Waiting to see what she will be penning down next!

Rani of Rampur is the first novel by Suneeta Misra. It is the story of Rani who is a journalist in a small city in India. She lives with her parents and two younger sisters. Early in the story, Rani travels to visit with her mother's sister, Savitri, brother-in-law, Vir Singh, and their children. Rani is there to help plan the wedding of Vir Singh's son, Durlabh, from his first marriage.
Being a journalist, Rani is quickly drawn into the mysteries of each member of this extended family. Through Rani's eyes, the reader learns just how dysfunctional a well-to-do family can be.
I really enjoyed Rani of Rampur. I learned a lot about the culture and politics of India. I cannot wait to read more from this exciting new author!
